Do your students do more staring than stating during class discussions? Or do class discussions veer off path too frequently? While facilitatingdiscussions is a skill set that instructors are often expected to learn “on the job,” we have all experienced the difference between the learning that can happen during a skillfully guided discussion and the confusion that often follows a discussion free-for-all. Participants in this workshop will learn strategies for how to prepare yourself and your students for discussion, how to guide a discussion and keep it on track, and how to evaluate what students learn from discussion.
