Designing Grading for Growth

October 23 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Alternatives to traditional grading systems based on point allocations and one-and-done assessments can help students grow as learners and humans. There are many alternative models from which to choose. But how do you build an alternative grading system into your course? How do you design a system and then implement it well in your day-to-day teaching? How do you avoid spending huge amounts of time grading reassessments? How can you earn buy-in from students and colleagues? How do you build a grading system that delivers on its promise to return focus to learning rather than grades? In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll build a working prototype of an alternative grading system, based on the “Four Pillars” model, for one of your existing or upcoming courses, that takes your subject, your students, and yourself into account.
