The Generative AI & Teaching (GAIT) Faculty Fellows program brought together a cohort of faculty to explore, share, develop, implement, and assess innovative applications of generative AI for teaching and learning. 15 faculty fellows were selected to participate in this year-long program, with each fellow developing and piloting a unique, AI-supported teaching innovation. Fellows engaged in workshops and collaborative sessions during the 2025-2026 academic year, and received one-on-one support from a teaching and learning specialist. Each fellow received a $3,000 stipend to support their professional development or enhance teaching resources.

The program culminated in the Generative AI and Teaching Colloquium, where fellows shared their projects with the campus community, fostering wider conversations about AI-enhanced education, and inspiring further innovation across campus.

Program Goals

This program aims to:

  • Equip faculty with effective generative AI teaching strategies.
  • Enhance student learning outcomes and career readiness.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Position UGA as a leader in AI-enhanced education.

Program Activities

The following meetings will be scheduled based on shared availability among selected GAIT fellows:

  • August Kickoff Event (will be scheduled to take place August 1-12).
  • Monthly cohort meetings (including foundational workshops on effective AI teaching practices and collaborative connections around developing projects).
  • Monthly project check-ins and consultations with assigned CTL consultant.
  • Spring 2026 GAIT Colloquium (date tbd)

Fellowship Benefits:

  • $3,000 stipend for professional development, AI tool licenses, or teaching project support.
  • One-on-one instructional support.
  • Participation in foundational workshops and collaboration sessions.
  • Opportunity to present at the Generative AI and Teaching Colloquium.

Cohort Selection

15 full-time faculty members were selected for the program based on the following criteria:

  • Potential Impact on Student Success: How the proposed innovation supports student learning and development
  • Creativity and Innovation: Originality in applying generative AI to teaching
  • Sustainability: Potential for lasting impact beyond the fellowship year
  • Likelihood of Success: Expectation that the project will be successfully implemented in pilot form during the cohort year
  • Alignment with UGA Priorities: Connection to institutional goals and best practices in teaching and learning
