Teaching effectiveness often relies on our students’ sense of “belonging” in a class. One way to increase the likelihood that your students experience belonging in your classes is to engage in practices that help build community among and with your students. That is, you should intentionally work toward cultivating an environment in which you and your students are engaged in positive relationships, with shared goals and a sense of comfort in the environment. In this workshop, we’ll walk you through the “what”, “why”, and “how” of creating community in your instructional role.
