The classroom is at its best when it facilitates the exploration of new ideas, the expansion of horizons, and the empathetic engagement with others from backgrounds that differ from our own. Yet under tense political and cultural climates, the trust that is foundational for this type of learning can often feel at risk, or worse, absent. In this TA Café, our Future Faculty Fellows will facilitate a discussion on the importance of trust in the classroom, from what it is and why it matters to practical methods for achieving it. Participants will leave this workshop with new tools for helping students trust them as instructors, how to build trust in their students, and, critically, how to trust themselves.
Facilitated by: Future Faculty Fellows Huck Bagby, Vicki Lu, Addison Montroy, Morgan Munoz, and Taylor Vanderveen
