Cultivating Community to Increase Learning

January 29 @ 2:55 pm - 4:10 pm

Teaching effectiveness often relies on our students’ sense of connection to others – in a class and in the university as a whole. One way to increase the likelihood that your students experience this sense of connection in your classes is to engage in practices that help build community among and with your students. That is, you should intentionally work toward cultivating an environment in which you and your students are engaged in positive relationships, with shared goals and a sense of comfort in the environment. In this workshop, we’ll walk you through the “what”, “why”, and “how” of creating community among students, from your perspective as a TA or instructor.
