TA Orientation
This interdisciplinary orientation provides general preparation for graduate students with instructional responsibilities, including an overview of policies and procedures pertinent to the TA role, an introduction to effective teaching strategies and practices, and exposure to services and resources available across campus that offer support for individuals engaged in teaching and learning endeavors at UGA.
The CTL opens new TA Orientation Training modules,housed in our learning management system, prior to the start of the Fall and Spring semesters.
As per Graduate TA Policy, anyone holding an assistantship with defined teaching duties – including all teaching and laboratory assistants – must complete the CTL’s TA Orientation prior to or concurrent with their first TAship.
Participation in TA Orientation allows students to:
- Become familiar with key policies and resources related to successful teaching and learning practice at UGA;
- Learn how and what to prepare for their first few weeks in the classroom and/or laboratory environment;
- Be introduced to the resources available within their departments and across campus that offer support for individuals engaged in teaching and learning endeavors at UGA.
In partnership with other units on campus, the CTL maintains a list of all students who have successfully completed the TA Orientation training modules and shares these records with the Office of Institutional Research for inclusion in the TA Compliance Dashboard.
Fall TA Orientation comes in two parts: a 90-minute, in-person kick-off event, held the day before the start of classes; and a set of online training modules housed in eLC, which serve as a mandatory part of your TA training.
The Welcome Event and the deadline to complete our Fall 2024 TA Orientation Training Modules have now passed. The Spring 2025 Training Modules will be available at the beginning of December. If you need to complete TA Orientation training prior to Spring 2025 to fulfill the TAO requirement of TA Policy, please email GradTeach@uga.edu.
Spring TA Orientation (TAO) is offered via virtual training modules, curated and monitored by CTL personnel, with registration available by mid-December. Information about Spring 2025 TAO training will be available in early December. Completion of these training modules is a mandatory part of your TA training, and the only way to fulfill UGA’s TA Orientation requirement.
We welcome all new and returning students to the graduate teaching community here at UGA. We hope that this is a great semester for you, and we look forward to interacting with you at the CTL!
