1-on-1 Consultations for Faculty

CTL teaching & learning experts are available to meet with you to talk about your teaching in multiple ways: in person, via Zoom, and/or through email exchange. See below for more information about the 1-on-1 services we offer and/or reach out to us via our contact form to request a consultation with a member of our team!

Develop Teaching Materials & Ideas

We are happy to talk with you about any aspect of your teaching, to function as an objective sounding board for your ideas, and to share insight into research-informed best practices as you develop new materials. For example, we can help you:

  • design or redesign a course.
  • design or redesign a course component (e.g., syllabus, assessment, lesson plan, course policy, rubric, etc.).
  • design an effective first day (or week) of class.
  • redesign or enhance your approach to grading.
  • increase active learning opportunities for students.
  • build community with and among your students.
  • develop a new idea for a course, class activity, assessment, etc.
  • gather and/or review feedback from students and identify actionable takeaways (including, but not limited to our Mid-Semester Formative Evaluations service).

Solve a Teaching Problem

Our teaching efforts don’t always go the way we’d like them to. For example, maybe your students didn’t perform well on a test and you’re not sure why. Or perhaps you just want to figure out how to increase engagement among your students. We can help with this! For example, we can help you:

  • diagnose what’s causing a pain point or problem in a course.
  • plan a change to address a pain point or problem.
  • evaluate the impact of a change you’ve made.

Engage in Research on Teaching

The CTL is well-equipped to help you engage in scholarly approaches to teaching, and to support your development and execution of scholarship of teaching and learning projects at any stage. For example, reach out if you’d like to talk with us about:

  • designing a well-formed research question.
  • identifying sources of data to inform your work.
  • selecting methods for data collection and/or assessment.
  • navigating the IRB approval process.
  • engaging in a literature review on your topic.
  • interpreting collected data and/or revising your plan.
  • writing up your results.
  • identifying opportunities to share your work.
