Fellows for Transformative Teaching

Thanks to support from the Office of Instruction, the CTL Fellows for Transformative Teaching Program returns again in Fall 2024.

Program Goals

The goal of this program is to bring together experienced faculty from across non-tenure track lines to explore and engage in conversations about advanced teaching practices. More specifically, the goals of the Fellows for Transformative Teaching program are to:

  1. Provide senior faculty with opportunities for the sharing of ideas with other dedicated, highly motivated, and innovative teachers from other disciplines who may have similar interests and who face similar teaching challenges;
  2. Provide senior faculty with opportunities for professional and personal renewal;
  3. Provide funding for an instructional project designed to strengthen courses and teaching methods in each participant's academic department; and
  4. Help reinforce an instructional environment that honors and recognizes the skills and values of dedicated instructional practitioners across campus.

Selection of Participants

Ten UGA faculty members are selected for the cohort during the Spring semester, with participation in the program beginning the following Fall. The cohort is selected by the Associate Director of Teaching and Learning, in consultation with the CTL Director.

Eligibility Criteria

UGA faculty who meet the following criteria are invited to apply:

  • Full-time non-tenure track faculty with instructional responsibilities;
  • Have advanced at least one rank in their faculty line;
  • Have been at UGA for at least four years;
  • Have been in their current non-tenure track role for at least two years (i.e., you have not had a significant change in duties or job purpose in at least two years).

Program Activities

The following activities comprise the program for the academic year.

  • A two-day retreat held near the beginning of the fall semester and during business hours. Cohort members will be expected to attend the entirety of the retreat. The Fall 2024 retreat will be held at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia on September 19 & 20, 2024.

  • Program participants meet four times per semester during the Fall and Spring semesters. Meetings are conducted as round table discussions and/or involve outside speakers. Meeting topics focus on in-depth discussion of issues related to college teaching and learning and academic life.

  • Each participant is provided with $2,000 for an instructional project designed to strengthen courses and teaching methods in each participant's academic department.
